Support our area teams

School is just around the corner, which is something that all of the students in the area are dreading.
Following the start of the school year will be one of the best things about being in high school or covering high school sports, football on Friday nights.
With practices set to start in the coming weeks and games quickly to follow, players and coaches are going to need all of the support they can get.
This is where parents and family members come into play.
Most high school football teams have a booster club that is made up of team supporters that help the team whenever they need it.
Northview has an active quarterback club that is currently attempting to set up a co-ed softball tournament to help support the club and the football program.
Out in Canoe, parents of the athletes at Escambia Academy are helping get the stadium and bleachers in order by making donations or finding donations wherever possible.
Escambia County High School on the other hand needs a little more help.
Head coach Kyle Davis and a few supporters of the football team are working hard to raise money and find sponsors for their football program.
The problem is they don’t have anywhere near the support that they need.
It seems that parents of several of the football players think that football or athletic programs are able to just go and go without any help or funding.
This is far from true and people need to realize it.
If a parent would take the time and be a part of the boosters they would realize how much extra attention the team needs to have any equipment or supplies needed.
Really and truly, the coaches and players should not have to ask for the help because they do enough throughout the week and on Friday nights to bring solid entertainment and hopefully a win to Atmore.
So take a second to think about how your son, grandson, nephew or cousin is out there in the heat working out to get ready for the football season.
Would it really be that hard to take just a few minutes to visit with the coaches and see if there is anything that you could do lend a helping hand?
This applies to all of the teams in the area.
Find out what is needed to help make their season just a little bit more successful and if you aren’t able to help in the end at least you tried. That’s all they really need to see is an attempt by someone who actually cares about the young athletes playing the sport.
