WEST JEFFERSON, N.C. - Douglas Allen Hale passed away peacefully at his mountain home in West Jefferson, N.C. on Tuesday, Sept. 29, 2009 with his family by his side.
Doug was born on Sept. 12, 1958 in Atmore. He grew up in Alabama and graduated from Troy State University. He later moved to Charlotte, N.C. and worked with Fischer Paper Products for 12 years. He was most recently employed with Food Handler, Inc. as Southeast Regional Director of Sales.
Second only to his family and friends, Doug loved his Harley and his home atop Bald Mountain in Ashe County. He looked forward to motorcycle rides though the Blue Ridge Mountains. He also loved to spend time with his friends and enjoyed entertaining at his home. Doug was the nucleus of a large circle of friends who will forever be humbled by his generosity. He always had an ear to listen and a place of comfort for his friends.
Doug’s grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Johnny Abrams Sr. of Wawbeek and Mr. and Mrs. Novy Lee Hale of Atmore, precede him in death.
Survivors include his parents, Douglas and Mary Hale of Atmore; his three sisters, Connie Digmon of Atmore, Teresa Land (John) of Gulf Port, Miss. and Kathy Griffin (Chuck) of Uriah and numerous niece and nephews. Also surviving Doug are many friends whom he considered family.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 4, 2009 at the First Baptist Church of Canoe with the Rev. John W. Stacey officiating. Visitation will be held from 2 p.m. until 3 p.m. at the church.
Burial will follow at Sardis Baptist Church Cemetery in Wawbeek.
