ATMORE - The Rev. Fred Gibbs, 79, of Atmore died Tuesday, Oct. 6, 2009 in Atmore.
He was a Minister of the United Pentecostal Church of Atmore, born in Dora, Ark. on Dec. 9, 1929 to the late Fred Floyd and Grace Carter Gibbs.
Two brothers, Albert Sallee and Williams Gibbs and three infant sisters preceded him in death.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Stella McGhee Gibbs; one son, David Gibbs and wife, Patricia of Atmore; one daughter, Rosemary Powell, all of Atmore; four granddaughters, Lindsay Gibbs, Stacey Gibbs, LaRose Powell, all of Atmore and Ashley White and husband, Chad of Tuscaloosa; four sisters, Ola Mae Hicks of VanBuren, Ariz., Imogene Henderson and husband, Frankie of Charleston, Ariz., Linda Gibbs of Rudy, Ariz. and Virginia Kay Roberson of Jamesville, Neb.; two brothers, Frank Gibbs of VanBuren, Ariz. and James Paul Gibbs of Ft. Smith, Ariz.; 25 nieces and nephews and a loving Church family.
Services were held at 2 p.m. Friday, Oct. 9, 2009 from Atmore Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Steve Breceda, the Rev. Roger Lewis, the Rev. Don Davis and the Rev. Charles Sheaver officiating. Interment followed in Oak Hill Cemetery. Family received friends from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 8, 2009 at Atmore Memorial Chapel.
Pallbearers were Kendall McGhee, Eddie Fore, Jeremy Rackard, Jason Rackard, Cecil Corey and Justin Stabler. Honorary pallbearers were all attending Ministers.
Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home, Inc. was in charge of all arrangements.
