APD seeks assault suspect

The Atmore Police Department needs your help locating a suspect involved in a weekend shooting in Atmore.
Saturday night at 9:09 p.m. dispatchers with the Atmore Police Department received a call of shots fired on Jones Street. The responding officer was one block away when he arrived at the scene where he found four males running south on Jones Street. As the officer approached the individuals he discovered that two were injured.
Willie James Hudson Jr., 20, suffered a gunshot wound to the upper leg. He was transported to Atmore Community Hospital and was then airlifted to USA Medical Center in Mobile. The second victim, a juvenile, was shot in the back and airlifted from Atmore Community Hospital to Sacred Heart Hospital in Pensacola, Fla. Both victims were treated and released the following day.
Statements indicate that four individuals were walking on Jones Street when Charles Franklin Jones, a 21-year old black male of Atmore, approached Hudson. Jones then allegedly shot Hudson in the upper leg. As the remaining individuals began to run, Jones fired his weapon three more times striking the juvenile in the back.
Investigators have spoken with Charles Jones by telephone where he indicated that he would turn himself in to police, but has failed to do so. An arrest warrant has been issued charging Charles Jones with Assault 1st degree.
The Atmore Police Department is asking anyone who knows the whereabouts of Charles Franklin Jones to contact Atmore Police Department at 368-9141.
