The Cougars of Canoe were able to lock up the No. 3 seed in the AISA playoffs Friday night with a dominating 38-7 victory over the Meadowview Trojans at Bachelor Field.
The Cougars (6-3, 5-1) ended the game with a total of 433 yards of offense with 364 of those yards coming on the ground.
Cougars Head Coach Heath Gibson said it was a great win for his team as they head into next week's game against Monroe Academy.
"I felt like we played a really great ballgame tonight," he said. "It was senior night, so there were a lot of emotions running high, and our seniors played strong to come a way with win."
Offensively, the Cougars were able to make plays on the Trojans's defense all night and picked up huge chunks of yardage.
Senior wingback Jon Dean led the Cougars, running the ball 13 times for 91 yards and a touchdown, while completing four passes for 69 yards and recording seven tackles.
Sophomore running back Jaylen Henry led the team in rushing yards carrying the ball 11 times for 142 yards and two touchdowns. Senior Cameron "Cowboy" McGhee also scored two touchdowns and had 79 yards on 13 carries.
Defensively, the Cougars were only caught off guard for the Trojans’s only touchdown.
Next Friday, the Cougars travel to Monroeville to take on Monroe Academy. Kickoff is at 7 p.m.
