Business owner shot twice

Investigators with the Atmore Police Department spent a majority of the day Tuesday piecing together the events leading up to the shooting of a business owner Monday evening.
According to Public Safety Director Glenn Carlee, the owner of the Game Room, located at the intersection of Martin Luther King Avenue and Park Drive, was shot twice during a robbery attempt at approximately 8:45 p.m.
In a release issued by the APD, it states that several young black males approached the owner, whose name was not disclosed, when he was closing up his business for the evening attempting to rob him. When the victim indicated to one of the suspects that he knew him, an unknown gunman fired two rounds from his weapon striking the victim in the chest and the arm.
Officers were only a few blocks away when Atmore dispatcher received the shots fired call, but when they arrived at the scene, the assailants had already fled. During their patrol of the area, a motorist informed the officers on the scene that he had been shot during an attempted robbery and that he was en route to the hospital for treatment.
The victim was held overnight at Atmore Community Hospital for treatment and evaluation of his injuries.
Tracking dogs from Fountain Prison were also called to the scene to assist in the search of the offenders to no avail.
Persons of interest have been identified by police officers, but they continue to ask that anyone with any information regarding the shooting contact that the Atmore Police Department at 368-9141.
