The Veteran’s Day Parade sponsored by the American Legion and the American Legion Auxiliary and coordinated with the Veterans of Foreign Wars is scheduled for Wednesday, Nov.11 at 2 p.m.
This parade has been an effort to encourage the young people in Atmore to work with parents, teachers and youth group leaders to on the floats, which demonstrate the patriotism we feel and the honor that we want to show those who have fought for the freedoms that we enjoy.
This is why the schools and the churches have been invited to enter floats. We hope that the schools will allow their bands and marching groups to march.
The National Guard Unit has been included since they are the current group who has been in combat and we all know this group.
Because of the goal of this parade, we certainly want others to participate. We want as many veterans as possible to be in the parade. The VFW always has a riding float in the parade.
The American Legion will have one this year as well. Some veterans will be asked to ride on some of the floats that will be in the parade. Others may get together and ride in cars.
If possible antique cars will be participating in the parade and will help transport veterans that cannot walk. We encourage anyone who is a veteran or supports veterans to walk in the parade. Motorcycle groups are also welcome.
The American Legion Auxiliary “Miss Poppy” and “Little Miss Poppy” will also be riding in the parade.
Last, we need the Atmore citizens to attend the parade and support these veterans. The parade means nothing if this support is not there. See you there.
God Bless America !!
