With head basketball coach Anthony Hayes serving his country overseas in Afghanistan, the Escambia County Blue Devils basketball program has been turned over this season to former Greenville coach Tim Moorer.
Moorer has taken over for the 2009-10 season and will try to get the Blue Devils an area championship in their final season in Class 5A, Area 1.
This season, the Blue Devils have seven varsity players returning with some additions coming up from the junior varsity squad.
Moorer said he is thrilled about the opportunity to lead the Blue Devils.
The Blue Devils have been working for the last few weeks, and are still preparing to be their best.
Moorer said everything is coming together for the Blue Devils.
Offensively, the Blue Devils will not do the same thing over and over.
Moorer said his team will be showing their opponents different looks throughout a game.
Defensively, the Blue Devils will start with some basics and move into more complex schemes throughout the season, according to Moorer.
He said the team will work out of its comfort zone when they do not have the ball.
With the season upon the Blue Devils, it will soon be seen whether the team responds to the coaching.
Moorer said he believes the team will eventually find itself.
The Blue Devils next game is Monday against Monroeville at ECHS. Tipoff begins with the junior varsity boyst at 5 p.m.
