Parade a success
The American Legion and the American Legion Auxiliary would like to enthusiastically and sincerely thank Atmore for the wonderful response to the parade by either participating or supporting it by being there. It was the best parade yet!
We hope that this annual event will eventually evolve into the original intent. This is not intended to be a “showy” event. It is intended, first to honor veterans. Second it is intended to strengthen families and encourage a cooperative effort between children, their parents and their teachers as well as some of the churches well in advance of Veteran’s Day. If your church did not receive a letter and you would like to be included, please let us know.
We know that there is a lot going on this time of year. There is football with homecoming and other important events related to school and churches. We do, however, need to remember why we have the freedom to be involved in all of these things without fear.
We believe that stronger family units will make stronger schools and churches. The future of our country will depend on these ideals. The American Legions programs are based on God first, Country second, family units and community. Things that we do keep these goals in mind.
When planning this parade, letters are sent about two months in advance. We send to persons that will need to delegate to the most likely person to initiate this project. In addition to floats, we need bands, groups of marching individuals and those who want to ride in support. There is no entrance fee for being in the parade; however, there are prizes. Prizes based on historical significance and originally. If you missed the parade, you missed a blessing! I know it was for us. God Bless you and God Bless America!!
