There won’t be a fire on the roof of Fred’s Department store today, but there will be firefighters.
Daniel White, a firefighter with the Atmore Fire Department, said the event is one that began in an effort to help local children during the holiday season.
The “Up on the Rooftop” event will begin at 8 a.m. today with no particular ending time planned.
White said all the toys donated during the drive will be distributed through the Change of Mind outreach program in Atmore.
White said the goal of the program is to see that local children have a happy holiday season.
White said six to eight other firefighters from the local union will join him on the roof for the event.
Anyone interested in making a donation to get the firefighters off the roof can come directly to the site.
White said toys, preferably new, can be dropped off at the location on Lindberg Avenue in the Fred’s shopping center.
White said donations of any size - from small toys like dolls to large toys like bicycles - will be accepted.
