The new year could bring new leaders for state and local governments as candidates begin to qualify for elections.
On the ballot in 2010 will be the governor and several constitutional offices, as well as county offices including sheriff and some county commission and school board seats.
In Escambia County, the following offices will be on the ballot:
Candidates for those offices are to qualify with the probate judge’s office, Taylor said. Candidates for public office must declare their candidacy with county party chairmen by 5 p.m. 60 days before the primary election. The primary elections are set for June 1 and the general election is Nov. 2.
Candidates for the following local offices will qualify with the secretary of state’s office:
Statewide, the following races are up for election:
Other statewide offices up for election include secretary of state, state auditor, state treasurer and agriculture commissioner.
All state Senate and House seats are also up for election. New Democratic state Sen. Marc Keahey will run for re-election, with Republican Danny Joyner set to challenge for District 22.
U.S. Sen. Richard Shelby will be running for re-election along with District 1 U.S. Rep. Jo Bonner.
