One of Atmore's most well-known voices is moving from 105.9 WNSI to Legends 105.1 WPFL leaving the fate of Atmore's radio station up in the air.
Lou Vickery has been the co-host of the L.A. Morning Show for the last five years and has helped turn the show into the No. 1-rated talk show in both Baldwin and Escambia Counties, according to an independent survey conducted by Broadcast Solutions.
Vickery will be moving to Legends 105.1 in Flomaton with his new show Lou in the Morning debuting on airwaves on Jan. 18.
Vickery said the move to WPFL has its obvious reasons.
"I just think it's about time for me to be moving on for some obvious reasons," he said. "I'm excited about this opportunity because they have offered me my on gig in the morning. Atmore is home to me, and I think I'll continue to have a presence in Atmore."
Vickery's new show, which will air from 7 a.m. until 9 a.m. Monday through Friday will be in the same platform as his previous stop with WNSI, and will cover a wide range of topics on area subjects.
Vickery said he will feature guests everyday with a minimum of four scheduled.
"I think it will be a great show," he said. "We will feature all types of guests involved in the area. As a matter of fact, I emailed Judge Dave Jordan this morning about being on the show."
Topics that will be included on Vickery's show include economic reports, news reports and another familiar topic: schools.
Vickery said his show will continue to be involved with local high schools that allow students to speak about what their school is doing. He added that his show should cover just about everything.
"We are still going to do our high school report," he said. "We are going to call it the '7:20 School Bell.' We will also still have our coaches show come the fall and football season. I'm also thinking about having the athletic directors from each school on once a month to give a report on other sports like basketball and baseball. I think we will pretty much cover the entire spectrum."
As for the fate of WNSI, not much is known. Vickery said that officials with the station approached him about staying, but he felt best to say goodbye.
"They were trying to get me to stay on," he said. "I just think it's best for me to move on though. I don't really know what will happen to the station. Not sure what their game plan is."
Lou in the Morning begins broadcasting on Jan. 18 on Legends 105.1.
