Escambia County High School opened the Escambia County tournament Thursday at T.R. Miller High School with the Blue Devils playing the T.R. Miller Tigers.
Things started disastrously for the Blue Devils as they were down 13-3 in third inning, but Atmore’s team made the best of the situation as they turned things around and finished the game a respectable 14-10.
The turnaround on defense was due in part by the Blue Devils’ fourth pitcher of the day Tyquaiz George, who entered the game with two men on base, during the third inning.
George proceeded to get the Blue Devils out of a tough jam and out of the inning, when they were already down 10 runs.
Blue Devils Head Coach Jason Barnett said George did a good job of finishing the game.
Once the Blue Devils found their pitcher, they jumped back into the game with their bats coming to life. The Blue Devils fought back in the remaining innings scoring seven runs.
Marshall Rolin, Devante Brown and Justin Stabler helped provide a spark the offense lacked early in the loss.
Barnett said one more inning and his team could have won.

Monroe 1, 15
The Escambia County Blue Devils split a doubleheader with the Monroe Tigers Tuesday night in Atmore.
The Blue Devils won the first game 4-1 and lost the second 15-0.
