Escambia County’s unemployment rate leaped up to nearly 1.5 percent from December to January, according to new numbers from the Alabama Department of Industrial Relations.
The county rate was 13.9 percent in January, compared to 12.5 percent in December. The rate has been in double digits for months and is higher than the state rate of 11.1 percent in January.
