The Lady Rams of Atmore Christian School took the field for the first time Tuesday night taking on Santa Rosa Christian School Lady Lions falling 10-1.
The Lady Rams (0-1, 0-0) are in the first year of the school’s softball program and are hoping to build the foundation for a future powerhouse.
The team is being led by head coach Briana Halteman and assistant coach Michelle Schrock.
Schrock said the school decided to begin a softball program to help expand on the school’s athletics.
Halteman, a former Northview Lady Chief softball player, said she thinks her team will do fine in their first season of competition.
Despite the score of their first game, the Lady Rams did show promise only giving up two runs in the first four innings of the contest.
Schrock said that the team played strong defense in the early stages of the game before making some costly mistakes.
When it came to batting, the Lady Rams had issues getting their bats going against the Lady Lions.
In the loss, the Lady Rams were only able to record one hit, which was an RBI-single by Deidre Smith that scored Kendra Beachy.
Schrock said hitting for the Lady Rams just could not get going.
In regards to practice, the Lady Rams are working everyday to make sure they are accustomed with the game they are now playing.
Halteman said she has her team working on several drills to get them ready for all of their games.
With four years of high school softball under her belt, Halteman thinks she has the experience to lead the team.
She said things she has learned in the past allow her to teach her team the right skills.
The Lady Rams next game is Thursday, March 18 at 1:30 p.m. against Santa Rosa.
