Bonds selected to third GSAC team

Atmore native and former Escambia Academy Lady Cougars star Lori Bonds was selected to her third consecutive Greater South Athletic Conference All-Conference Team on Feb. 25 playing for the Huntingon College Lady Hawks.
Bonds, a senior at Huntingdon, was the only Lady Hawk chosen for the GSAC All-Conference Team, and she was also selected to the GSAC All-Academic Team as well.
During her senior season with the Lady Hawks, Bonds averaged 12.5 points per game, while averaging 6.3 rebounds per game, both of which ranked eighth in the GSAC. She also ranked in the Top 10 in the league in assists and steals.
Bonds said being selected to the All-Conference Team for a third straight year is an honor.
Bonds appeared in 25 games for the Lady Hawks during her final season. She scored in double-digits 15 times including scoring a season-high 23 points on the road at Wesleyan. She also recorded four double-doubles, which included tying a career-high 11 rebounds against the Wesleyan Pioneers. Her final game of the season showed off her defensive prowess as she recorded 10 steals to go along with 12 points.
Bonds said she felt her performance during her senior year was to the best of her abilties to help her team.
In her four years with the Lady Hawks, Bonds appeared in 104 games starting 100 of them.
During her senior season, Bonds also joined the Huntingdon 1,000 career point club and scored a total of 1,291 points in her time at Huntingdon. She also added 485 rebounds, 225 assists and 178 steals in her career.
Bonds said hitting the 1,000-point mark was exciting because of how rare it is.
As for her career ending, the Huntingdon senior said she will miss playing for her college.
She said she will miss being competitive with her team.
Bonds is nearing her graduation and is hoping to become a teacher upon finishing college.
