An investigation into the cause of a fire early Thursday morning on Martin Luther King Drive continues, according to officials with the Alabama State Fire Marshal’s Office in Montgomery.
The fire broke out just before 5 a.m. at the 2000 block of MLK Drive near Old Ship Circle and Northgate Drive.
Initially, it was believed that a firebomb may have caused the blaze. Pilgreen could not confirm or dismiss the rumors.
Personnel with the Atmore Fire Department and Poarch Fire Department worked to extinguish the blaze, arriving on the scene at 4:58 a.m. Six fire engines worked the scene along with 14 fire personnel.
The fire also forced county buses to be rerouted that morning.
Atmore Police Department personnel were also on the scene.
