Atmore’s Boy Scouts will have an up-to-date facility in which to meet when renovations are complete at the Craig Street location.
Sheryl Vickery, Atmore Area Chamber of Commerce executive director, said the project has become one her office is overseeing.
Monday, Former Boy Scout Troop 26 Scout Master Johnny Gibbs presented Leadership Class of 2009 President Judd Coley with a check for $1,813.39 to help in the renovation process.
Currently, the building is undergoing electrical work, which Vickery said could be a lengthy process.
The process is being done with help from a $30,000 reimbursement grant from Gulf Coast RC&D, Vickery said.
Vickery said the restoration of the hut has already been time consuming and could continue through a period of time.
Vickery said Boy Scouts in the future will be able to enjoy the hut because of renovations being done today.
Vickery said donations of time and money will be accepted to help continue the work. Those wishing to donate money or volunteer to provide labor on the project may contact any member of the Leadership Class of 2009 or the Atmore Area Chamber of Commerce at 368-3305.
