Willie Lee Martin

ATMORE – On April 28, 2010 Willie L. Martin departed this life into eternal resting place.
Mr. Willie Lee Martin, the oldest of 13 children, was born to the loving union of William and the late Ella Mae Martin. He was born     Feb. 16, 1948 in Camden. He graduated from Union High School in Monroeville in the year of 1967 and moved to Brooklyn, N.Y. that same year. One year later, on June 5, 1968 Willie was introduced into the United States Army where he served heroically in the Vietnam War as a Crusherman (PVT E1). Effective  Jan 11, 1970 Willie was honorably discharged from the Army with the following decorations/medals: National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal and a Vietnam Campaign Medal. That same year on Nov. 28, 1970 he was united in holy matrimony to Daisy Curry. To this union four daughters were born. Willie moved to Atmore in 1989 and spent the rest of his life here. Willie will be remembered as a kind, loving person with a very giving heart, and as an avid lover of all kinds of music. Other of his past times included watching football and studying and reciting world history.
Leaving to cherish his loving memories are his wife, Daisy “Nancy” Martin of Brooklyn, N.Y.; is father, William Martin of Frisco City; four daughters, Darlene Martin of New York, N.Y., Prudence Martin of South Plainfield, N.J., Tatilya Martin of Atlanta, Ga. and Tara Riley of Atmore; nine grandchildren, Diondre, Deniesha, Tavion, Khadijia, Malik, Destiny, Dionte, Emmanuel and Nigel; three brothers, Bobby (Jenette) Martin of N.C., Eddie (Cynthia) Martin of Excel and Edward (Theresa) Martin of Atmore; seven sisters, Linda (Allen) Lang of Frisco City, Sandra (Walter) Greene of Panama City, Fla., Eartha (John) Jones, Deborah Peterson, Darlene (George) McMillan, Kathy (Joe) Jones and Barbara Martin, all of Atmore; a sister-in-law, Patricia Martin of Monroeville; two aunts, Sarah Jones of California and Nancy Martin of Frisco City; two uncles, Jimmy (Cassandra) and Robert (Margaret) Witherspoon of Pensacola, Fla.; a host of nieces, nephews and cousins and a very special cousin Jasper (Louise) Martin of Monroeville.
Funeral services will be held at   11 a.m. Friday, May 7, 2010 from the Jones Street True Pentecostal Holiness Church with Bishop Willie Williams officiating. Interment will follow in Fairview Cemetery.
Mayberry Funeral Home will be in charge of arrangements.
