One Escambia County Blue Devil is receiving the opportunity of a lifetime when he will visit Omaha, Neb. for a baseball camp involving the Under Armour Baseball Factory National Team Omaha Pro Select Training and Tournament from June 24-29.
Marshall Rolin, a member of the Escambia County High School baseball team, was invited to a tryout in Mobile earlier this year and was selected to visit the big event.
Rolin said he received a letter for the tryout and apparently made an impression with the scouts.
“They sent me a letter inviting me to tryout at St. Paul’s, and I was chosen to attend the event in Nebraska,” Rolin said. “I’m really excited about the opportunity. I guess they just saw something the liked and were looking for when I tried out.”
Rolin leaves for Nebraska on June 22 and will get to do several things, while at the camp.
He said he knows his itinerary will be full once he arrives.
“I know they are going to work and train us for a couple of days,” Rolin said. “Then they’ll break us up into teams, and we’ll play in a tournament. We are also getting to visit the College World Series and watch some games.”
Rolin plans to give the scouts and coaches present at the event a show to earn some recognition.
Rolin said he hopes the talent he possesses is enough to earn him some looks from colleges.
“I’m just going to go out give my all and show them what I can do,” Rolin said. “I’m hoping I get some offers from colleges to go play baseball. It’s something I have always wanted to do.”
One thing that Rolin has proven is that he is the ultimate team player that will give his all to help his team win, which could help him on his trip.
In an interview in March, Rolin said when he takes the field all he is thinking about is getting a victory.
“As soon as I’m out there in the game, all I think about is that I’ll do anything, so that my team can win,” he said. “I just try to make every play that I can possibly make.”
For Rolin’s trip to be more feasible, sponsors are welcome to make donations to help ease some of the funding.
Rolin said the ride out there and food are the big things that need to be covered.
“Really donations would help pay for the gas getting to Nebraska, and eating while I’m there,” Rolin said. “It would really help.”
