Numerous Woods Road residents were left in the dark Tuesday night following a one-vehicle accident where a pickup truck collided with a power pole snapping it in half.

According to rescue personnel at the scene, it appeared that the driver of a Ford F-150 pickup, later identified by the Alabama State Troopers Evergreen Post as 52-year-old Atmore resident Gary Ray Wood, lost control around 10:25 p.m., struck a power pole and crashed into a ditch. The force from the impact of the crash scattered wood chips all along the roadway and the vehicle came to rest approximately 50 yards from impact, indicating that speed may have played a factor in the crash.

Paramedics with Atmore Ambulance transferred Wood to Atmore Community Hospital for treatment of his injuries. LifeFlight was also dispatched to the ACH, but it is unknown if the driver was transferred to another hospital. The extent of his injuries were unavailable at press time.
