Students at Escambia County High School will have a familiar face leading them next school year.
Board members with the Escambia County Board of Education unanimously hired Escambia County Middle School Principal Zickeyous Byrd as the Blue Devils’ new principal. Byrd will transfer to his new position effective July 1.
“I’m really excited,” Byrd said Thursday evening. “I’m ready to get to work.”
Superintendent of Education Billy Hines noted Byrd’s proven track record for improving schools both academically and in discipline as the reason for his hiring.
Also hired were David Lanier as director and principal of the Escambia County Career Technical Center after serving as assistant principal at ECHS for two years. Sandra Reid, who has served as assistant principal at W.S. Neal Elementary School for the last three years, was hired as Flomaton Elementary School principal.
