Legion, VFW focus on upcoming events

The American Legion, the American Legion Auxiliary, and the VFW would like to take a stand on a few things that are upcoming:
• September 11 (9/11) – There seems to be more of a tendency to forget the significance of this event. Many think that this could never happen again. The same evil forces that engineered that event continue to try to do things on a smaller scale.
There have been several failed attempts. How long can we hope that they will all be stopped? We have been very fortunate that these attempts have failed. The point is that they were attempts on this soil, the United States of America. We need to never forget that and never let our guard down.
• On Sept. 17, there is a little celebrated holiday, Constitution Day. This seems to be a day of little importance to mist. If you have kept up with recent events in our country, you will realize that we need to promote the Constitution.
We need to let those know our feelings of outrage at the suggestion of changing this important document.
The principles of freedom upon which our Country was founded and has operated successfully for more than 200 years were written into the Constitution. These men fought and died for the rights and privileges we enjoy.
There are those who strive to change it; even rewrite it. We must support it and demand the rights afforded us through the Constitution.
