Investigators with the Atmore Police Department are probing an early Wednesday morning traffic accident that claimed the life of an Atmore man.

The accident occurred at the intersection of East Nashville Avenue and Medical Park Drive at approximately 5 a.m. killing Tommie Lee Hampton Jr., a 57-year old Atmore resident, who was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash by paramedics.

According to preliminary investigation, Hampton was leaving a nearby convenience store when he drove his bicycle into the path of an oncoming vehicle driven by Joseph Kolb of Mobile. Kolb was not injured.

No charges have been filed against the driver.
