The Cougars of Canoe are in the midst of homecoming week and are preparing to host the Wilcox Wildcats in an important region match up.

The Cougars (4-4, 2-3) are looking to get back in the win column after slipping to the Southern Academy Cougars 28-13 in Greensboro last week.

Cougars head coach Heath Gibson said he expects his team to play better in order to win their homecoming game.

“It’s always worrisome about homecoming because there are so many festivities,” Gibson said. “After taking that disappointing loss to Southern last week though, I expect our guys to be focused and ready to play hard this week.”

The Wildcats will bring a power running game to Canoe in hopes of spoiling homecoming.

Gibson said they run behind big lineman to make plays.

“They run out of the veer and run a lot of option,” he said. “They follow their big lineman, so they can make plays happen.”

The Cougars and Wildcats kick off at 7 p.m. Friday night in Canoe.
