Atmore Mayor Howard Shell purchases the first poppies from American Legion Junior Auxiliary Junior Miss Poppy Jessica Sanspree, left, and Little Miss Poppy Maddy Locke during Tuesday afternoon’s council meeting. Poppies are currently being sold by Junior Auxiliary members for donations. Members will also be on hand at local grocery stores from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. on Nov. 6 selling poppies. In other business, the council adopted a proclamation recognizing Nov. 5-11 as Veteran’s Week in Atmore.
