ECHS game moved to Thursday

For the second time this season, a change will be made to the football schedule of the Escambia County Blue Devils.

The first change came when the Blue Devils’ game against B.C. Rain was moved from Mobile to Atmore due to scheduling issues. This time the change does not come in location, but when the game will be played.

Instead of playing their game against the Monroe County Tigers on Friday night, it has been moved to Thursday night in Monroeville.

Blue Devils head coach Mark Heaton said the idea came when he spoke to Monroe County Head coach Matt Blake.

“Coach Blake and I spoke this weekend about moving the game to Thursday,” Heaton said. “He spoke to his administration this morning and I spoke to ours and we all agreed to move it. It will give us an opportunity to be seen by more people especially since so many big games will be played Friday night.”

The pros and cons of playing the game on Thursday are numerous, but the Blue Devils are still looking forward to it.

Heaton said it’s a short week of preparation, but also for how much physical work his guys will have to take on.

“On one hand it’s a short week of preparation,” Heaton said. “It also gives our guys a break from the physical demand they usually take on. We are going to give them Friday off and let them go watch some football games. They are already saying they want to go see Thomasville and Jackson play each other.”
