BEATRICE – George U. Roberts, 65, of Beatrice formally of Atmore died Nov. 6, 2010 in Beatrice.

He was a gas plant operator for Exxon Oil and retired in 2006, taught at Union High School, was a church deacon at Morning Star Baptist Church in Beatrice, Oriental #017 United Supreme Council of Mobile; J.F. Shields alumni association, high school basketball referee, Worshipful Master – Good Hope Masonic Lodge #153 in Atmore, Progressive civic club of Atmore, ancient Egyptian Arabic order Nobles of the Mystic Shrine and had a bachelor’s degree in industrial arts from Alabama A&M.

He is survived by four daughters, Sonya Peacock of Stockbridge, Ga., Kristen Roberts of Stone Mountain, Ga., Rachel Roberts of Huntsville and Judy Brown of White Plains, N.Y.; two grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 11, 2010 at Morning Star Baptist Church in Beatrice with the Rev. Dion Culliver officiating. Interment will be held in the Church Cemetery.
