Oscar Wilde was once quoted as saying “theatre is the greatest of all art forms.” Those who enjoy live performance theatre are blessed to be able to enjoy such presentations right here at home.
The Greater Escambia Council for the Arts has presented dozens of performances since the group formed. Some of the productions of the group have been aided through funding from donations made to the Atmore United Fund.
Jerry Janes currently serves as the groups Chief Executive Officer with Phil Johnson serving as the artistic director for the group.
Throughout the years, GECA has maintained a high quality of presentations including musicals, dramas, comedies, and most recently, a radio drama.
GECA offers a variety of programs including three major dramatic productions each year. A musical performance is the highlight of the summer theatre production series.
Through their work on and off the stage, GECA members also participate in events that include art exhibits, socials, talent shows and performances at community events. With performances of the group also presented through school touring shows, concerts and many other performance opportunities are also available.
GECA receives funding through memberships and ticket sales, but some funding that allows the group to present regular productions comes through financial assistance from United Fund.
United Fund is a local organization that solicits funds on behalf of public and community organizations throughout the area.
Donations made to United Fund are fully tax deductible. For information on making a contribution to United Fund contact any member of the United Fund committee for details.
