Lady Cougars defeat CCA

Escambia Academy senior Amber Huskey led her team to a monster victory over the Crenshaw Christian Academy Lady Cougars on Monday afternoon at Escambia Academy in Canoe.
Huskey recorded a double-double posting 26 points and 25 rebounds as the Lady Cougars crushed Crenshaw Christian Academy, 70-36.
The Lady Cougars (4-2, 0-0) dominated on defense by turning turnovers into points.
Lady Cougars head coach Heath Gibson said the turnoves his team converted to points helped them earn the win.
“We struggled shooting from the field against Crenshaw, but we had a lot of turnovers in the press defense we run, which helped us get easy layups.”
The Lady Cougars opened the game by mounting a comfortable lead on the Crenshaw Lady Cougars outscoring them 18-8 in the first quarter.
In the second quarter, EA continued to pour points onto the scoreboard by outscoring CCA 22-8 to take a 40-16 lead into halftime.
With the lead at the half, the Lady Cougars made the most of the second half as they continued to pressure Crenshaw to help increase their lead.
Crenshaw was able to outscore EA in the third quarter as the visiting Lady Cougars put up 16 points to the home team’s 12, but it still didn’t dent the lead EA already had.
Escambia Academy nailed the coffin shut on their victory as they outscored CCA 18-4 to bury the Lady Cougars 70-36 for the win.
Lady Cougars’ guard Grayson Emmons posted a season-high 16 points in the win, while recording three rebounds, one assist and one steal.
EA senior Carlie Broughton also posted a season-high 14 points and pulled down seven rebounds. She also had one steal and a block.
Paige Allen scored three points for the Lady Cougars with Page Lancaster adding two points. Allen recorded three rebounds and two steals with Lancaster grabbing one board.
Taylor Helton pulled down 18 rebounds in the win with three blocks, two assists and two steals.

Escambia Academy’s Lady Cougars did not come away with a win like they had hoped to on Friday against the Coosa Valley Lady Rebels.
The Lady Cougars (3-2, 0-0) were defeated 57-51 with the Lady Rebels coming away with the win thanks to a strong second half.
Lady Cougars head coach Heath Gibson said his team had trouble generating points other than on turnovers.
“We only shot 16 percent from the field,” Gibson said. “Our points only came from turnovers on layups.”
Coosa Valley jumped out to the lead in the opening quarter of the game outscoring the Lady Cougars 13-9.
Escambia Academy clawed back into the game and into the lead though in the second quarter outscoring Coosa Valley 24-11 to take the lead into halftime ahead 33-24.
Following halftime, the Lady Rebels fought back and pulled back into the lead towards the end of the third period.
With a 22-point outburst in the third quarter, the Lady Rebels chipped away at the Lady Cougars’ lead and eventually gained control of the game leading 46-44.
Down by two to begin the fourth period, the Lady Cougars were unable to regain any momentum as Coosa Valley extended their lead outscoring the Lady Cougars 11-7 to earn the win.
Lady Cougar Amber Huskey led EA with a double-double recording 12 points and 14 rebounds. Huskey also posed six steals and three assists.
Grayson Emmons added 10 points for the Lady Cougars to go along with four steals, three assists and three rebounds.
Lady Cougars senior Taylor Helton recorded eight points and 14 rebounds inthe loss and also recorded one assist, one steal and a block.
Peyton Snider scored seven points for the Lady Cougars to go along with six rebounds, one assist and one steal.
Seniors Kristen Matthews scored five points and Rachel Fuller added four points. Matthews also had five assists, five steals and one rebound, while Fuller had one rebound, one assist and one steal.
