Lady Devils win 50-38

The Lady Blue Devils of Escambia County were led by Diamond Williams’ 22 points as they got back on the winning track by beating the Monroe County Tigers 50-38 at Escambia County High School on Thursday night.

The Lady Blue Devils (4-5, 1-1) controlled the momentum of the entire game as they earned their first area win.

Lady Blue Devils head coach Lorenzo Jones said his team improved on both ends of the court.

“We played good in this game,” he said. “We improved in our shot selection and our defense picked up. Overall, we are back on the winning track and hope to carry this over into the county tournament.”

The Lady Blue Devils began their run to a win in the first quarter as they outscored the Lady Tigers 17-10.

In the second quarter, the Lady Tigers outscored the Lady Blue Devils, but ECHS held their lead as they went into halftime ahead 28-22.

Following halftime, the Lady Blue Devils continued to pound the Lady Tigers as they made a final charge for the win.

In the third quarter, the Lady Blue Devils’ defense made the most of their opportunities by holding the Lady Tigers to two points, while they were able to score 15.

Leading 43-24, the Lady Blue Devils were able to hold of the fourth quarter push made by the Lady Tigers as Monroe outscored them 14-7, but ECHS’s lead was too much as they won 50-38.

Williams finished the game with 22 points as well as seven rebounds, seven steals and three assists.

Brianna Martin added a double-double scoring 10 points and pulling down 10 rebounds. She also had one assist and a steal.

Lady Blue Devil Jasmine Ireland finished the win with eight points, two rebounds and two assists, while Cha’Nae Lyles scored seven points, four assists and one rebound.

Shykeitha Crenshaw rounded out the scoring with three points and two rebounds.

The Lady Blue Devils next game is today in the Escambia County tournament at T.R. Miller High School. Game time is 2 p.m.
