Frances Gray Spires

ELLENWOOD, Ga. – Mrs. Frances Gray Spires of Ellenwood, Ga. formerly of Atmore and Pensacola, Fla. transitioned into eternal rest on Sunday, Dec. 19, 2010 at Henry County Medical Center in Stockbridge, Ga.
She was a native of Atmore and attended Escambia County Training School. She was a member of Houser Memorial AME Zion Church in Pensacola, Fla. and had owned and operated a restaurant in Pensacola for many years.
Her last surviving child, Judy Williams, succumbed on Tuesday, Dec. 21, 2010 in Cleveland, Ohio.
Two sons, Alfie G. Gray Sr. and Willie Arthur Rue; her parents, Sandy and Charlotte Rue; her husband, Jessie Spires; two sisters and four brothers, preceded her in death.
Those left to mourn is her sister, Beulah James of Atmore; a grandson that she reared, Alfie G. Gray Jr. of Ellenwood, Ga.; 11 grandchildren and a host of great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 28, 2010 at the Zion Star AME Zion Church with the Rev. Humphrey Shuford, pastor, officiating. Retirement of her remains will be in the Fairview Cemetery with Turner Funeral Chapel, LLC of Atmore directing.
