Blue Devils defeat Monroe County

Escambia County extended its winning streak to five games with a 56-39 victory over the Monroe County Tigers in Monroeville on Tuesday night.

The Blue Devils (12-6, 2-0) won the game in dominating fashion as they controlled the tempo from the outset of the opening tip.

In the first quarter, the Blue Devils established the tempo and took the momentum as they jumped out to an early lead outscoring the Tigers 9-3.

Escambia County continued to make their presence known in the second quarter as they extended their lead to 13-points as they outscored Monroe County 15-8 to go into halftime leading 24-11.

Following halftime, the Blue Devils maintained their lead en route to picking up their 12th win of the season.

In the third quarter, Monroe County finally chipped away at some of Escambia County’s lead as they outscored the Blue Devils 17-15.

Leading 39-28 at the start of the final quarter, the Blue Devils finished the game in dominating fashion as they outscored the Tigers 17-11 to earn the win 56-39 road victory.

Blue Devils head coach Anthony Hayes said it was the best game his team has played all season.

“This might have been our best complete game from start to finish,” he said. “The guys really came out and executed our style of play within our offensive scheme. On the defensive end, they really paid attention to their assignments and worked hard.”
