Cougars rout ACS Rams

Escambia Academy’s Cougars remained undefeated with a 53-38 victory over their area rivals, the Atmore Christian Rams at Escambia Academy in Canoe on Tuesday night.
The No. 8 Cougars (10-0, 1-0) dominated their game against the Rams leading from start to finish in the contest.
The Cougars opened the game by jumping out to a comfortable 11-4 lead over the Rams in the first quarter.
In the second quarter, the Cougars continued to pound the Rams outscoring them 16-8 to take a 27-12 lead into halftime.
Following halftime, the Cougars maintained their lead over the Rams despite being outscored in the third period.
The Rams chipped away slightly at the Cougars’ lead in the third quarter hitting their shots to outscore EA 15-13.
The Cougars finished the game by extending their lead to 15 again in the final quarter outscoring the Rams 13-11 to pick up the win, 53-38.
Post-players Keaton Maher and Darron McGhee led the Cougars with dominating performances down low. Maher finished the game with 15 points, seven boards, three blocks and two steals, while McGhee recorded a double-double with 12 points, 16 rebounds, three assists, two blocks and one steal.
Cougar Jaylen Henry added 11 points in the win to go along with four rebounds, three steals, one block and one assist.
Tanner Kirk and Jordan Sasser each posted four points with Kirk recording three rebounds, three assists and one steal. Sasser also had four rebounds, two assists and one block.
Brandon Goddard scored three points with two steals for EA; Wesley Steadham added two points, two boards and a block and Blake Quimby finished with two points and two rebounds.
Dillon Anderson rounded out the scoring with the three points.

The Escambia Academy Cougars continued to show why they are undefeated with a strong performance against the South Choctaw Rebels last Friday night.
The Cougars (9-0, 1-0) never trailed against the Rebels and held a comfortable lead from the tipoff until the final whistle blew.
In the first quarter, the Cougars made the most of their scoring opportunities as they built an early lead by outscoring the Rebels 16-6.
Escambia Academy maintained that 10-point lead in the second quarter as both teams added 14 points to their total to go into halftime with the Cougars leading 30-20.
Following halftime, the Rebels were able to cut into the Cougars’ lead, but EA used the fourth quarter to build it back up again for the win.
In the third quarter, the Rebels found some momentum and knocked the Cougars’ 10-point lead down to five by outscoring them 15-10.
With a 40-35 lead to open the fourth quarter, the Cougars dominated the period by outscoring them Rebels 19-12 to earn the 59-47 win.
Keaton Maher led the Cougars with a double-double as he scored 24 points and pulled down 12 boards. He also had two assists and two steals.
Tanner Kirk added 10 points for EA with six rebounds, two steals and one assist.
Cougar Jaylen Henry scored nine points to go along with five assists, two rebounds and one steal, while Brandon Goddard finished with eight points, one rebound and one steal.
Darron McGhee scored six points with 11 rebounds, two assists and one steal, while Jordan Sasser rounded out the scoring with two points.
