Ida Brown Jones

ATMORE – Ida Brown Jones, 89, of Atmore passed away peacefully with family at her bedside on Jan. 13, 2011.

She was born in Lottie and lived almost all of her life there. She was a longtime member of Lottie United Methodist Church and an active member for many years. She moved to The Meadows Assisted Living in the fall of 2006. She was the youngest of nine children born to Mary Milsted Brown and William Lee Brown.

Her husbands, Henry Ardis, who was killed in action in 1945, and Dolphus S. Jones, who she was married to for 57 years, along with three sisters and four brothers, preceded her in death.

She is survived by her daughter, Janice (Elbert) Croley of Pensacola, Fla.; son, Terry (Linda) Jones of Atmore; seven grandchildren, Jesse (Linda) Croley of Hoover, Stephen (Rachael) Croley of Molino, Fla., Rex (Kristina) Croley of Pensacola, Fla., Kathy (Wayne) Bedsole of Cantonment, Fla., Ashley (Jason) Harper of Hoover, Wendy (Brandon) Whitehead of Blakely, Ga. and Amy (Kevin) Sanders of Dothan; 16 great grandchildren and one brother, Thomas Brown of Robertsdale.

A very special thanks to Alice Daily for her many years of care and devotion to our mother and the staffs at The Meadows Assisted Living and Atmore Nursing Center for their care of her.

The family received friends from 1:30 p.m. until the 3 p.m. service time on Sunday, Jan. 16, 2011 at Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home with the Rev. Diana Everette and the Rev. Jim Reese officiating. Interment followed at Lottie United Methodist Cemetery.

Her grandson and grandsons-in laws served as pallbearers.
