Conecuh commission sets public hearing on landfill

With a full house on hand — mainly people ready to protest a proposed landfill — the Conecuh County Commission on Monday set a public hearing to discuss the issue.

Last week, Conecuh Woods LLC filed an application for a 5,000-acre landfill near Repton. The company had made a similar bid before, but commissioners unanimously rejected the proposal.

With the company on the agenda for Monday’s commission meeting, a packed house attended in case a decision was made again. Instead, commissioners simply set a public hearing for March 10 at Reid State Technical College, with a time to be determined later.

Under Alabama law, an application for such a landfill would automatically be approved within 90 days if the commission takes no action.
