ATMORE – Mary L. Nichols, 92, of Atmore died Monday, Jan. 17, 2011 at her residence.

She was a homemaker, born in Monroe County on Nov. 25, 1918 to the late Jesse and Ella Chandler Turberville. She was a member of Brooks Memorial Baptist Church, and a loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother.

Her husband, Lester Gray Nichols, and a daughter, Eileen Stewart, preceded her in death.

Survivors include one son, Lester Gray Nichols Jr. and wife, Louise, of Watauga, Texas; one daughter, Millie Rumple and husband, Rich, of Lexington, Ken.; son-in-law, Jerry Stewart of Meridian, Miss.; three sisters, Louise Rhodes of Grandberry, Texas, Ruth Cox of Prattville and Francis Coleman of Huntsville; five granddaughters, eight great grandchildren and several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Services were held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 23, 2011 from Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Mike Grindle officiating. Interment followed in Uriah Cemetery in Uriah.

Active pallbearers were Aubrey Teal, Allen Sharpless, Jack Sharpless, Cecil Daniel, Dave Taylor and Ellie Bailey.

Family received friends from 12:30 p.m. until service time on Sunday, Jan. 23, 2011 at Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home.

Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home, Inc. was in charge of all arrangements.
