Successful seasons have earned three Escambia Academy basketball players the chance to represent their school in the AISA All-Star game at Huntingdon College on Saturday.

EA Cougars senior Keaton Maher and Lady Cougars seniors Amber Huskey and Taylor Helton were nominated by their coaches and selected for the game, which they will leave for on Friday.

Maher led his team to an 18-1 record and Top 10 ranking before they fell in the RegionTournament to the Patrician Saints.

He said he is proud of the opportunity that he has to play in the All-Star game.

“It’s an honor to get to play in this game,” Maher said. “My team really helped me out a lot by getting me the ball.”

Huskey and Helton also led the Lady Cougars to a winning season with a 13-8 record and a berth in the AISA Elite 8 where they lost to an undefeated Lakeside Lady Chiefs.

Helton said getting to be an All-Star will be something she remembers.

“This will be something that I’ll always take with me,” Helton said. “I’ll get to play with talented girls from all over the state, so I’ll always remember it.”

For Huskey the chance to play in the All-Star game is accomplishing another goal.

She said she feels like practices have paid off and hopes her team wins.

“I’m excited to be able to play in this game,” Huskey said. “I feel like all of my hard work over the years has paid off. It’ll be fun to play with girls that I’ve never played with and hopefully we’ll win like we did in the volleyball All-Star game.”
