Blue Devils fall to Excel 17-6

After the Escambia County tournament was rained out on Saturday, the Escambia County Blue Devils returned to the field on Monday to take on the Excel Panthers.

Excel grabbed control of the match up in the second half of the game to pick up the win 17-6.

The Blue Devils (0-5, 0-0) were on the rough end of the first inning as the Panthers scored three runs as Cody Waters, Brad Mitchell and David Willis all scored runs.

Escambia County would keep the game close though as Marshall Rolin (3-for-3, 3R) put a run on the scoreboard.

After Excel scored a run in the second inning to lead 4-1, the Blue Devils fought back and took the lead 5-4 with TyQuaiz George (1-for-2, R), Winston Barron (0-for-1, R) and Tanner Smith (0-for-1, R) and Rolin all scoring runs.

The Panthers took the lead back in the third inning and extended it for the rest of the game as they scored two runs in the third, six runs in the fourth and five runs in the fifth innning to lead 17-5.

Rolin added one final run to the scoreboard for ECHS in the fifth inning, but they could not mount a comeback to come away with the win.

Rolin started the game for the Blue Devils pitching four innings with Winston and George each pitching one inning of relief.

Prior to the Saturday rainouts of the Escambia County tournament, the Escambia County Blue Devils were able to get in their first game of the tournament against the T.R. Miller Tigers on Friday night at Tom Byrne Park.

The Blue Devils (0-4) and Tigers were tangling for the third time in a week and the Tigers were able to come away with their third win over ECHS beating them 8-3.

The Blue Devils opened the game with a run in the top of the first as Marshall Rolin (1-for-4, 2B, R) scored on a double by Ty Dixon to give ECHS a 1-0 lead.

The Tigers answered back though in the bottom of the inning as they scored three runs.

Atmore would cut the lead to one in the top of the second as TyQuaiz George was able to score.

The Tigers took the lead for the final time in the bottom of the inning as two more runs scored and they added another in the third inning.

T.R. Miller scored their final two runs in the bottom of the sixth to go on top 8-2 with the Blue Devils coming up for their final at-bat.

Nick Flowers (2-for-4, R) made it on base and around to home plate, but ECHS would be stopped after his run falling 8-3.
