The Atmore Area Chamber of Commerce has been putting in a lot of time planning some upcoming events for Atmore and the surrounding areas.

The next scheduled event will be a seminar on March 14 from 9:30 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. at the Atmore Public Library. The Chamber of Commerce is partnering with Jefferson Davis Community College to bring Norman Schuchman from Gulf Coast Business Support Center to present a program to both businesses and individuals on “How to Conquer Everyday Life.”

The seminar is free and for more information, call the Chamber office at 368-3305 and talk to Sheryl Vickery, executive director of the Atmore Chamber of Commerce or office manager Shelly Williams.

“This seminar is to help businesses and individuals cope with the problems that everyone has to face every day,” Vickery said. “In many cases it means making big changes in the way we think, but the times call for that right now.”

On March 17, St. Patrick’s Day, the Atmore Chamber of Commerce will bring the wearing of the green and Celtic music to the downtown streets as Atmore celebrates the Irish holiday. “Paint the Town Green” will be from 4:30 p.m. until 7 p.m. in the downtown area. Businesses will be open for the extended hours and there will be plenty of arts and crafts for the children. They can decorate their own shamrock while the grown-ups enjoy arts and artists who will be set up in the downtown area. There will be refreshments and the Chamber hopes that everyone will come out and celebrate their Irish ancestry, even if they aren’t Irish.

“This is the first time we have had a St. Patrick’s Day event and we hope it won’t be the last,” said Vickery.

On May 7, Atmore will be celebrating MayFest, an event that has been going on for a number of years. It is held on the first Saturday in May at Tom Byrne Park and one of the most popular parts of the day will be the baby contest. This is the second year to hold the baby contest and it is being brought back because of its popularity. There will be arts and crafts, entertainment, and food, not to mention one of the favorites, the train.

“One of the favorite parts of this day is the “Pooch Parade” and the crowning of the male and female pooch,” Vickery said. “Anyone who wants more information about this event, or any of the others need to call the Chamber at 368-3305.”

The Atmore Chamber of Commerce is seeking vendors for MayFest. Contact them at the number above to enter your crafts, food or entertainment.
