A Poarch man is recovering at Baptist Hospital in Pensacola, Fla. from injuries sustained after the motorcycle he was driving collided with a car Wednesday night on Jack Springs Road near Interstate 65.
According to Alabama State Troopers, 26-year-old Jason Countryman struck the rear passenger side of a Chevrolet Impala with his Yamaha motorcycle after it apparently pulled into his path as it was entering the parking lot of the Fast Lane gas station at approximately 7:15 p.m.
Countryman was transported to the Poarch Fire Department where he was airlifted to Baptist for treatment of injuries including a broken collarbone and fractured skull, according to family members. It was reported by family members that he initially had swelling and bleeding of the brain, but that it has since subsided and he is expected to make a full recovery.
The driver of the 2008 Impala, identified by State Trooper officials as Mary Sharp Williams, 52, of Atmore, was also airlifted to USA Medical Center in Mobile. The extent of her injuries are unknown, but officers on the scene said that they were non-life threatening.
Officers with the Poarch Police Department, deputies with the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office and an Alabama State Trooper investigated the accident. Rescue personnel with the Poarch Fire Department and paramedics with Atmore Ambulance also responded to the scene.
The accident remains under investigation by Alabama State Trooper Hanks.
