A’s extinguish Blue Flames

The Atmore Advance Athletics were the big winners in Thursday’s late game between two Cal Ripken T-ball competitors as they defeated the Atmore Utilities Blue Flames 17-14 at Tom Byrne Park.
The Athletics opened the game with a huge inning taking the lead 8-0 as Luke Godwin, Judson Lee, Ethan Prestridge, Charlie Sasser, Ryan Odom, D.J. Nichols, X’Zavier Brown and Forrest Jones each scored a run.
In the bottom of the first, the Blue Flames had a tough time getting much offense going as they could only get one run on the board with Tauri McGhee being the lone batter to touch home plate.
Five more runs in the top of the second put the A’s lead to 12 runs with Lee, Prestridge, Sasser, Nichols and Elliot Classen doing damage with their bats and baserunning skills.
The Athletics lead held through the bottom of the second with the Blue Flames unable to add any runs.
In the top of the third, the Athletics could only get one more run across the board with Godwin scoring his second run of the game putting the A’s on top 14-1.
The Blue Flames cut into the large deficit in the bottom of the inning with McGhee, Kayley Cotton, T.J. Pettway, Antonio Brown, Jake Coker, Ayden Bonner and Sarah Bailey all scoring making the score 14-9.
In their final at-bat, the Athletics put three more runs on the scoreboard with Nichols, Brown and Jones coming across home plate to give the A’s a 17-9 advantage.
The Blue Flames attempted to comeback in their final turn at the plate, but could only get five runs across the plate with McGhee, Cotton, Pettway, Coker and Bonner scoring as the A’s held on to win 17-14.
Cardinals 23
Nailers 4
The Alto Products Cardinals picked up a huge win over the Cornerstone Home Builders Nailers beating them 23-4 in Cal Ripken T-ball action on Thursday night.
In the top of the first inning, the Nailers picked up three quick runs with Michael French, Zack Allen and Brody Black all crossing home plate.
The Cardinals answered back in the bottom of the inning to take the lead 8-3 with Braden Woods, Sarah Hartley, Ty Robinson, Ty McGhee, Nana Staples, Kanye Hooks, Asia Reynolds and Jamison McGhee all scoring.
After holding the Nailers scoreless in the second inning, the Cardinals added eight more runs with Woods, Hartley, Robinson, Ty McGhee, Staples, Hooks, Allie Brantley and Reynolds all touching home plate.
The Nailers failed to score again in the third inning, while the Cardinals scored their final seven runs with Woods, Hartley, Robinson, Ty McGhee, Staples, Hooks and Gabe Crawford scoring runs.
In their final at-bat, the Nailers only scored one run with Tater King making it across home plate.
