Athletics power past Shockers

The Atmore Advance Athletics extended their winning streak to two games on Monday night by shutting down the Tri-Co Electric Shockers 18-12 in Cal Ripken T-ball action at Tom Byrne Park.

The A’s took the lead in the bottom of the first and never looked back as they controlled the entire game.

The Shockers opened the game at the plate and were able to score four runs with Will Smith, Exavion Bradley, Christopher Johnson and Brodie Phillips each crossing home plate.

Trailing 4-0, the Athletics came out swinging in their first at-bat and were able to take the lead with eight runs coming across the plate as Luke Godwin, Judson Lee, Ethan Prestridge, J.B. Bellew, Lorenzo Arnold, D.J. Nichols, Xavier Brown and Forrest Jones all scored runs.

In the top of the second inning, the Shockers tied the game at eight with four batters able to put runs on the scoreboard. Shockers scoring in the inning included Charles Weaver, Will Smith, Bradley and Johnson.

The tie game did not last long due to the strong offensive effort of the A’s.

The home team picked up where they left off from the first inning as they scored five more runs to take the lead back 13-8. The five runners scoring for the Athletics in the inning were Godwin, Prestridge, Charlie Sasser, Arnold and Nichols.

The Shockers were unable to keep close to the Athletics with their at-bat in the top of the third. They could only add one run to the scoreboard with Trenton Smith being the lone Shocker to touch home plate to put the score at 13-9.

In the bottom of the inning, the A’s extended their lead to seven runs with three more Athletics crossing home plate. A’s batters Godwin, Lee and Prestridge were the batters who did damage at the plate to help their team put their total at 16.

The Shockers went to bat in the fourth inning looking to come back on their opponents, but could only get three runs with Johnson, Phillips and Ragan making their way around the basepath to bring the score to 16-13.

In what turned out to the final at-bat, the A’s were able to pick up two more runs with Nichols and Jones crossing the plate to help their team pick up the 18-12 win.

Cardinals 9

The Atmore Utilities Blue Flames picked up another big win on Monday night as they beat the Alto Product Cardinals 17-9 in a battle of Cal Ripken T-ball teams at Tom Byrne Park.

The Blue Flames opened the game with eight quick runs as Kole Stewart, Tuari McGhee, Kayley Cotton, T.J. Pettway, Antonio Brown, Jake Coker, Anthony McCants and Ayden Bonner all crossed home plate.

The Cardinals came to the plate in the bottom of the first facing an eight-run deficit and were able to cut it to four runs with the help of runs scored by Braden Woods, Ty Robinson, Nana Staples and Kayne Hooks.

Following a scoreless inning by both teams, the Blue Flames scored four runs in the top of the third with Brown, Coker, McCants and Bonner all getting on base and making it home to give their team a 12-4 lead.

The Cardinals continued to face an uphill battle as they were unable to score again in the bottom of the inning.

The Blue Flames picked up two more runs in the top of the fourth with Stewart and McGhee scoring runs.

In the bottom of the fourth, the Cardinals were able to cut the Blue Flames’ lead to five runs with Woods, Robinson, McGhee, Staples and Hooks all crossing home plate.

Already with a strong lead, the Blue Flames added to it in the top of the fifth as McCants, Bonner and Nya Tucker touched home plate pushing the score to 17-9.

In the bottom of the fifth, the Cardinals were unable to get any runners on board ending their comeback opportunities with the loss.

Nailers 3

The Cornerstone Homebuilders Nailers took a tough loss to the Atmore Utilities Blue Flames falling 18-3 in Cal Ripken T-ball action on April 19.

The Nailers opened the game strong scoring three runs with Michael French, Zack Allen and Brody Black crossing home plate, but those would be the only runs for the Nailers.

The Blue Flame grabbed the lead quickly in the bottom of the first as Kole Stewart, Kayley Cotton, T.J. Pettway, Antonio Brown, Jake Coker, Anthony McCants and Ayden Bonner all scored runs.

In the bottom of the second, the Blue Flames extended their lead with Duke Pettway, Stewart and Tuari McGhee each coming across the plate pushing the score to 10-3.

The Blue Flames put the game away in the bottom of the third with eight runs scoring as Bonner, Sarah Bailey, Nya Tucker, Duke Pettway, Alana Shelley, Stewart, Cotton and T.J. Pettway each touching the plate to give their team an 18-3 win.

The Tri-Co Electric Shockers outlasted the Alto Product Cardinals 17-16 in a battle of Cal Ripken T-ball teams on April 19.

The Cardinals took to the plate in the top of the first and score two runs with Braden Woods and Ty Robinson both coming across the plate.

In the bottom of the first, the Shockers took the lead with their turn at-bat as four runs scored with Will Smith, Tra King, Exavion Bradley and Christopher Johnson each touching home plate.

The Cardinals took the lead back with six runs in the top of the second as Gabe Crawford, Jacob Hughes, Ty McGhee, Allie Brantley, Dee Brown and Woods all scored.

The Shockers scored six runs of their own in the bottom of the inning to take the lead 10-8 with Trenton Smith, Charles Weaver, Will Smith, King, Bradley and Johnson all making it around the bases.

The Cardinals pulled within one of the Shockers in the top of the third as Kayne Hooks was the lone runner to score in their half of the inning.

In the bottom of the third, the Shockers scored five more runs with Tyler Ragan, Brodie Phillips, Trenton Smith and Weaver all scoring to push their lead to six runs.

In the final inning, the Cardinals took the lead 16-15 with Brantley, Jamison McGhee, Brown, Woods, Macy Edwards, Robinson and Nana Staples scoring.

The Shockers put two winning runs across the plate in their final at-bat with Bradilyn Williams and Tyler Ragan scoring on a hit by Trenton Smith to give their team a 17-16 win.
