For those who know Marlene Nall Johnt from her days as a resident of Atmore, the author and artist will be making another appearance as she promotes a tell-all book based on the experiences of her career.
Johnt, who penned “A Retired Art Teacher Tells All,” will be featured during a book signing and a discussion time on the subject of the book Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the Atmore Public Library.
APL Director Cathy McKinley said the event will allow area residents and booklovers an opportunity to meet the author and share in some of the experiences she details in her book.
“She is an excellent speaker,” McKinley said. “In our conversations preparing for Tuesday, she has promised that she will give a speech that everyone will enjoy.”
McKinley said the Escambia County High School graduate went on to college after leaving Atmore and began a career as an art teacher.
“She became an art teacher and was successful in her career,” McKinley said. “She has written a very funny book and I think she will be a great speaker at this event.”
Johnt will open the floor for discussion about the content of her book with those who take the opportunity to meet with her at the library Tuesday.
“This event is open to the public and there will be a book-signing following the discussion period of the event,” McKinley said. “Books will be available for purchase at the Library that day.”
Johnt, who graduated from ECHS in 1971, still has relatives in Atmore and is making another appearance to visit with family and friends.
To find out more about her book and her available artistry, her art can be viewed at her Web site at www.marleennaljohnt.artspan.com
Johnt’s art has been described as realistic, impressionistic abstract Southern art. Her book is one some critics have dubbed as funny and insightful.
“The book is really funny,” McKinley said. “Just reading the first couple of pages will have anyone interested in finishing the book.”
