A three-vehicle wreck just before 8 a.m. Tuesday killed a north Alabama man, Alabama state troopers said.

The wreck occurred about three miles north of Atmore on Alabama Highway 21, said troopers spokesman Kevin Cook.

Jessie L. Hemphill, 73, of Geraldine, was killed in the crash, Cook said.

Hemphill was driving a 1996 Jaguar.

According to reports, Hemphill had been attempting to pass another driver when he hit an 18-wheeler.

The other car’s driver was transported to the hospital by LifeFlight, reports said.
