Devils lose thriller

Escambia County lost a thrilling match up to the T.R. Miller Tigers on Friday night in Brewton.

The No. 10 Blue Devils (0-1, 0-0) fell 37-31 on a last second touchdown scored by the No. 7 Tigers (1-0, 0-0) who went for two to go up by six with one second left.

It was a tight game down to the last minute with the Blue Devils going up 31-25 on a touchdown scored with 1:02 left in the fourth quarter.

Two key plays allowed the Tigers to push down for the final score as the Blue Devils defense had slip ups on those plays.

Blue Devils head coach Mark Heaton said his team did what he wanted by competing until the final whistle.

“The game could have gone either way,” he said. “We gave up a couple of plays on the last drive, but our players fought their tails off to keep us in contention until the end, and that’s exactly what I wanted from our guys.

The Blue Devils next game is at B.C. Rain at Ladd-Peebles Stadium. The game is scheduled for 7 p.m. next Saturday night.
