Mr. Benny A. McGhee, 72, of Atmore died Friday, Sept.9, 2011 at his residence. He was retired from AT&T with 29 years of service. He was born in Escambia County, Ala., on January 26, 1939 to the late Adam and Carlie Dee McGhee Daughtry. He served in the United States Army.
He is preceded in death by four brothers, Houston Daughtry, Frank Jackson, Gerald Jackson and Lester Dalrymple and one sister, Doris Daughtry McGhee.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Morris McGhee of Atmore; one son, Roger Adam and Althea McGhee of Robertsdale; two dauthers, Janet McGhee and Chris Rodriguez and Carla McGhee and Andy Hammonds, all of Atmore; 10 grandchildren, Two Daughters, Janet McGhee Rodriguez & husband, Chris, Gia Rodriguez, Devin Rodriguez, Brittany Rodriguez, Tori Rodriguez, Coley McGhee, Brooke McGhee, Shawna Montgomery, Tristan Montgomery, McKenna Pettis, and Seth Hammonds; four great-grandchildren, Kamryn and Kylee Johnson, Mya and Layla Pettway; 10 brothers, Charles Daughtry, Leon and Ere McGhee, Levon McGhee, John Lloyd and Alice Dalrymple, Thomas Darymple, Billy Jo Carlton, Johnny Carlton, Tommy and Louise Carlton Jimmy Wayne and Janice Carlton, Clarence and Janet Carlton; six sisters, Ellen and Joe O’Barr, Emily and A.D. Owens, Essie Lee Wilkinson, Sara Dalrymple and Dany Bauer, Mable St. Germain, Pat and Wayne White.
Family received friends Sunday, Sept. 11 at Atmore Memorial Chapel Funeral Home from 5 to 8 p.m.
Funeral services were held Monday, Sept.12, 2011 at 2 p.m. from Atmore Memorial Chapel Funeral Home with Bro. Ray Ward and Bro. Leon McGhee officiating. Burial followed in the New Home Cemetery in the Poarch community.
Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home, Inc. ad Atmore Memorial Chapel Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
