The Northview Chiefs finally ended the long awaited opening to their 2011 season last week with a 27-14 victory against the Marianna Bulldogs in Marianna, Fla.

The Chiefs (1-0, 0-0) will seek their second victory of the season this week when they go on the road to take on the Chipley Tigers in Chipley, Fla.

The Tigers (2-0, 0-0) come into the game seeking their third win of the season after defeating Blountstown 16-7 last Friday.

In last week’s match up, Northview opened the game strong jumping out to a 21-0 lead early in the third quarter, but had to hold off a comeback by the Bulldogs before sealing the 13-point win with a fourth quarter touchdown.

As the Chiefs prepare for this week’s game agsint the Tigers, they are preparing for a physical road game against a strong opponent.

The concern this week for the Chiefs will be cutting down on turnovers after a few fumbles allowed the Bulldogs back into last week’s game.

The game will be one where each team lines up and hits the other one in the mouth, Northview Chiefs head football coach Sid Wheatley said.

“They are 2-0 and a good football team,” he said. “We know they like to play power football, so we need to be ready to play smashmouth football against them.”

The Chiefs and Bulldogs kick off at 7 p.m. Friday night at the Tigers’ home stadium in Chipley, Fla.
