Members of Atmore’s First United Methodist Church had a busy weekend cleaning up all over town Saturday during their annual Great Day of Service. Volunteers from FUMC got the day started Saturday morning with a breakfast and commissioning service in the church sanctuary before breaking off into teams for a long day of work in various locations around Atmore.
Among the locations where volunteers lent their services was the Atmore S.A.I.L Center where church members served lunch to men and women who volunteer their time to the center.
FUMC workers were also present at Hospitality House on the corner of Church St. and Medical Park Dr. where a team, among other chores, pressure washed the building.
A few streets over on Pensacola Ave. another FUMC team worked to make improvements to a deserted home.
In addition to outdoor work volunteers also delivered meals and performed house cleaning chores for home bound Atmore residents while youth and elderly church members created United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR) emergency relief kits in the FUMC fellowship hall.
United Methodist Women president Gay Drew said the day was wonderful for both those who were helped and the workers themselves.
“Participants were truly blessed,” she said.
