Northview’s second straight road trip of the season did not go as planned, with Chipley pulling out a 34-27 win over the Chiefs.
The Chiefs (1-1, 0-0) played tight with Chipley the entire game, tying things up in the second half, but the home team just found a way to win.
Consistency on defense lacked for the Chiefs with Chipley picking up several big plays.
More hard work is needed on the defensive side of the ball, Chiefs head coach Sid Wheatley said.
“We didn’t play well defensively,” he said. “We played well at times, but other times they just had big plays. We gave up too many big runs. We need to play more consistent on that side of the ball if we want to compete.”
The Chiefs offense showed up, scoring 27 points for a second straight game.
Leading the way were Brandon Sheets and Roderick Woods. Sheets passed for 136 yards and ran for 60 with a touchdown to his credit. Woods also rushed for 60 yards.
Chiefs rushers Montaio Mitchell and La’Mikal Kyles also put scores in the end zone. Mitchell led Northview with two touchdowns, while Kyles scored one.
The offense was a bright spot except for turnovers, Wheatley said.
“Offensively, we moved the ball all night long,” he said. “We just had a few key turnovers that put us in a bad position late in the game.”
The Chiefs next game will be on the road against South Walton. Northview and South Walton will kick off at 7 p.m. next Friday.
